Lake LBJ is a constant-level reservoir located in the Texas Hill Country, offering reliable water levels year-round due to its controlled dam system. Created by the completion of Wirtz Dam in 1952, the lake covers approximately 6,500 acres and is part of the Highland Lakes chain managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA).
Stretching roughly 21 miles in length with more than 200 miles of shoreline, Lake LBJ winds through communities such as Horseshoe Bay, Granite Shoals, Kingsland, and Marble Falls. Its stable water levels make it one of the most popular lakes in Central Texas for boating, fishing, waterfront living, and recreation.
Originally known as Lake Granite Shoals, the reservoir was renamed in 1965 in honor of President Lyndon B. Johnson. Today, Lake LBJ is known for its blend of natural Hill Country scenery, established lakefront neighborhoods, and easy access to Austin and surrounding cities.
